The stockings were hung...

I love Christmas stockings...with a passion. I especially love vintage stockings. I often find them at estate sales for a dollar and imagine that someone woke up on the magic of Christmas morning many years ago to find that santa had been there and left gifts in that very stocking. There's no way I can pass that up.I especially love felt and handmade stockings. They remind me of my childhood Snoopy stocking that I still hang each year.I also hang the vintage paper stocking I made in Pam's class at Silver Bella two years ago.So I decided that this year I wanted the kids to each have their hand at making their own stocking. One to keep and put up each year as they grow older. I bought a large felt stocking for each for $1 and pulled out my felt stash and some little felt ornaments I bought last year intending to put them on a cloth gingerbread house. As you can see, I helped with the cutting, but they certainly had their say in the design. I adore them and so do they! Here's a few more stockings we have up around the house that I've collected over the years. Each with it's own wear and it's own story, that I can only imagine.

Kari I remember my old stocking.. had it for years... then we got new ones because the stamped images came off and didn't look nice anymore.. they remind me a bit of the stocking you showed that was a bit lighter in color with the printed santa face on it.. mine was a deeper red, but it had that santa face and some words.. thanks for bringing back that memory. Your kids will treasure their stockings in the future.. I have material sitting here awaiting me to make new stockings for us all... i like the shape you used in yours you made! I love those curled up toes...

Great stockings. I totally love the two the kids made! They'll treasure those forever! I still hang my santa stocking that my grandma knitted for me when I was just a baby and it's so special to me.

These are all so fabulous and yes, they really do tell stories of their own. Your Snoopy stocking brought a smile to my face. So darling. I love that you still hang it up each year. But, my very very favorites are Chloe's and Lowell's. Your kiddos did an amazing job!

So wonderful. I'm trying to remember what my brother's and my stockings looked like. You'd think that would be emblazoned on my brain. Now I'm going to have that in the back of my mind until I remember :) I'll ask my brother too.

What a special kind of item to collect

The children did an awesome job with their stockings!
You would love my husband's old flannel stocking. It isn't felt as it's like an old pair of PJs. He's 51, so you can imagine the wear it's seen. Seeing the goodies in the stockings was one of the best thing to keep us occupied before my mom and grandmom got up!

wonderful stockings Kari! when we were kids, we used big old red and gray wool hunting socks for our stockings! I would love to have those back!

I love all the stockings. The ones your children made are adorable. They will treasure them in years to come. I still have my favorite stocking from Macy's when I was a little girl. It's hanging up right next to me now in my bedroom.

The stockings you made with the children came out great! And I love all of the vintage stockings. That's what my family still uses.

At our school, each 6th grade class in a certain teacher's room decorated a felt stocking. Not sure how many years of students did this, but this lady taught for a long time so probably 25+yrs. I still have mine and my dh was also in her room, so we have one he did also. This was back in the early seventies. I still hang them up every year. I love vintage Christmas stuff, too, especially handcrafted items.
